︎ There's a joke comics tell each other. "Why did Steve Martin quit comedy?" The Friday late show. It's a set that's notoriously bad. The crowd is tired. They worked all day, they just finished a big meal, and all they’re really trying to do is stay awake. The set is so grim that it's become a punchline: that Steve Martin, at the pinnacle of his storied comedy career, looked out at 10:30 p.m. crowd and said, "You know what? I'll find another way to make a living." It is honestly that bad. But, it's not the reason Steve Martin quit comedy. He quit because someone asked him to write a bio.
